Musee de L'Orangerie

Hidden in the Jardin de Tuileries exists one of the most beautiful museums in Paris: the Musee de l'Orangerie.  My mother has a friend from high school who is now living in Zurich and she had the following two pieces of advice for me...

1) Go each day to my favorite cafe':  La Duree on rue Bonaparte (no other location, only this one!)
2) L'Orangerie in the Tuilleries Gardens, see the fabulous Monet exhibit- best kept secret in Paris!

I have yet to accomplish the first tip but I now can say without question that the Musee de l'Orangerie is well worth your time when visiting Paris.  I have never seen Monet paintings quite like this, the size and colors are incredible.

Monet's water-lily paintings called the Nympheas are displayed through the upper level of the museum.  The two oval rooms containing the Nypmpheas are in the shape as a figure eight, to represent the idea of infinity and create the illusion you are in Giverny viewing the water lilies yourself.

"I am enraptured.  Giverny is a splendid place for me to be."

The museum is located in the heart of Paris; two minutes out the door and you run into the Louvre:

My roommate Alexis is coming from UVA this Saturday so this museum is certainly on our list of things to do along with countless others.

Tomorrow I have my first visit to the Centre Pompidou with a modern art class which I am really looking forward to.  Apparently the view from the roof of the museum is beautiful!

Bisous bisous,
Mary
